The Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) National Committee, consisting of delegates from each state plus YRNF officers and committee chairs, adopted this resolution, presented by Katrina Jørgensen on behalf of the YRNF International Committee, at its quarterly meeting in Charleston, South Carolina on November 14, 2015.
The Young Republican National Federation is horrified by the terrorist attack on France and supports the French people in their national defense and stand against terrorism after this coordinated assault on our NATO ally that has taken so many lives.
WHEREAS on November 13, 2015 multiple attacks across Paris, France, in a coordinated effort, have killed more than 100 people and left more than 200 people in critical condition. At the time of this resolution the French government has blamed ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) which refers itself the “Islamic State” for this terrorist assault, calling it an act of war
WHEREAS the people of France have the right to live in a society free from terror, in this dark moment for our international ally, we stand strongly in support of their right to use force to protect themselves against these kinds of terrorist attack encouraged by jihadist groups such as ISIS
WHEREAS the government of France, led by President Francois Hollande has promised a “ruthless” response to these horrifying atrocities and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has made clear that an attack on one NATO country is an attack on all its allies
WHEREAS the United States of America, and the international community at large condemn acts of terror, as no cause can justify the targeted loss of lives
AND WHEREAS France is America’s oldest and first ally since 1776, supporting us in our move for independence during the Revolutionary War
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Young Republican National Federation expresses strong support for rights of the people of France and all countries to be free from acts of terror, as the civilized world has a responsibility to aggressively confront the forces of evil, and support the development of civil society across the globe that can confront enemies of peace and stability
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Young Republican National Federation expresses support for decisions made by France and NATO to use necessary force in seeking retribution for these senseless attacks
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Young Republican National Federation expresses our condolences to the family and friends of those killed and injured and the people of France as whole as they face a national tragedy
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to Republican lawmakers
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution will be sent to French political parties, youth organizations and civil society groups
